Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, was my best friend, my joy, my treasure. Still is. Always will be.
Yes. For as long as there had been Christmas, I, Alexis, youngest of the Clintons, loved him the most.
Still do. Always will. I'll tell you our story. Once, I was five years old. A Christmas special came on TV. And I couldn't wait to watch it. Sam the Snowman started to tell the story of how Rudolph saved Christmas.
As he began to tell the story, the scene dissolved into a cave, where a baby reindeer had just been born. Donner, the father, named him Rudolph. Mrs. Donner, the mother, said it was a wonderful name.
Rudolph lifted his head to the sound of his mother calling his name.
To me, it was love at first sight. "Aw, what a cute baby", I thought. And when I saw his red nose glow, it made me love him even more.
"Wow, his nose is so bright and shiny, it glows. Ooh what a pretty light", I thought as he said his first words. Santa came in to meet Rudolph. When he saw his nose glow, he said he wouldn't make the sleigh team because of he was different.
I didn't think that was nice. Donner told his wife that they should hide Rudolph's nose. And that made me even more angry. When Donner cover his son's nose with the dirt of the cave, Rudolph seemed troubled and turned to me.
And when he did, a magical spark of energy shocked from my eyes to his. That moment had created a permanent bond between us. A bond so strong, that it still echoes in every friendship between person and character.
"Don't worry Rudolph", I said to him in my head. "I'll be your friend. I don't care what all of those meanies said, I love you just the way you are. We're gonna be the best of friends you and I."
Mrs. Donner took the dirt off Rudolph's nose, and it glowed with joy, as if he understood me. As Santa and his elves were making toys for Christmas, there was one elf who was a little different. His name was Hermey. And he didn't like to make toys. He dreamed of becoming a dentist. I said to him in my head, "Hermey, if you want to be a dentist, go for it."
And Rudolph wasn't having much fun with his father keeping his red nose a secret. And when the Reindeer Games came, I couldn't wait for Rudolph to impress Santa. And maybe when Santa sees how good Rudolph is, maybe he would let him on the team, without the fake nose.
Meanwhile, at Santa's castle, the elves sang a song for Santa. And I thought it was great. But Hermey didn't show up to sing, and the head elf got mad. The Reindeer Games were about to begin, when Rudolph and Fireball noticed three does. One of them, was wearing a red bow, with white polka dots on her head.
Then the coach came, and started take off practice. Rudolph walked up to the doe. "Aw they look cute together. Maybe you'll be buckfriend and doefriend someday Rudolph," I thought. The doe was named Clarice.
When she told Rudolph that he was cute, he flew perfectly on his first try. But when Fireball and Rudolph were butting antlers, his fake nose came off, and his real nose glowed.
The other reindeer started to laugh at him. And that made me really angry. I shouted at them, "You big bullies, leave him alone! Just you do you think you are?! Come on put'em up! I'm not scared of any old reindeer."
Rudolph was so upset, he decided to run away. Even when Clarice's father told him to stay away from her. Hermey popped out of the snow, and he asked Rudolph to run away with him.
Rudolph agreed. But the outside world was dangerous, with the Abominable Snow Monster on the loose. After their first night away from home, Rudolph and Hermey made a new friend. He was a prospector named Yukon Cornelius.
My three friends escaped from the snow monster by an ice boat. They eventually came to an island inhabited by toys that are outcasts and a flying lion named King Moonracer.
Rudolph knew that if he went with Hermey and Yukon, he would put them in great danger. So he left them. Rudolph grew up into a fine young buck. And he came home.
He realized his parents and Clarice were gone out to find him. He knew that the Snow Monster captured them.
With the help of Hermey and Yukon, the Snow Monster was tamed. But the snowstorm was causing big problems in the sky. But Rudolph still had his red nose.
Santa asked to lead his sleigh. And Rudolph was the hero who saved Christmas. Rudolph and I are still the best of friends. I have him in books, dvds, music, and toys, and a picture.
I love Rudolph like a brother. We do everything together. The Rudolph and Clarice dolls I sleep with are the ones I always talk to.
Rudolph always listens to me, he never makes fun of me, and he shares all of my secrets. I just can't go through the day without being with him.
And when we are apart I think of him. Rudolph taught me two very valuable lessons about friendship. The first was friendship that you make can be with anything, anywhere, and anyone.
The second was sometimes the thing you think will cause you to loose friends and feel left out can actually help you make your closest friends, and realize how special you are.
